Cleanfarms/AgriRÉCUP is a Canadian not-for-profit that promotes agricultural sustainability through nationwide waste management programs. External stakeholders include about 190,000 farmers with ~1,500 recycling sites, as well as 200+ members across 10 provinces.

Position Overview
We’re seeking a bilingual, intermediate level communicator trained in communications with a focus on media strategy/execution, social media and digital communications. The right person will have demonstrated expertise, i.e. a minimum of five years’ work experience in an agency or structured job environment.
This position reports to the Director of Communications and collaborates with other members of the communications and operations team. (including contractors). This position focuses largely, but not exclusively on three key areas:
- Media relations – strategy, writing, management and monitoring including both online and traditional media (print, radio, etc.): writing for these outlets, pitching stories, etc.
- Social media – calendaring, developing graphic, video and written content, posting, monitoring, responding to keep us vibrant and interactive in our key channels and expanding over time
- Web-writing and impact measurement – specialist in web writing to proactively work with our web designer, as well as our communications and operational teams to keep our web presences on two websites current, dynamic and consistent with our social media conversations and evolving operations; working with our web designer to analyse performance of key pages and sites overall
As Media Relations and Digital Communications Coordinator, you will also:
- Create input to the strategic annual communications plan and quarterly updated calendar for media, social media, and digital-web initiatives.
- Draft key messages and press releases in English and French, handling distribution and performance updates.
- Develop and manage organic social media strategies, including content creation and approvals.
- Measure the impact of digital communications and use metrics to shape annual plans.
- Launch at least one new organic campaign each year.
- Lead digital paid campaigns with external suppliers.
- Oversee web content management and plan for a site refresh.
- Optimize photos and create engaging graphics and videos for social media growth.
We’re looking for exceptional communicator, who is also interested in the agriculture industry and recycling and with expertise as follows (some of which is also noted above):
- An undergraduate degree or college diploma in communications, marketing, journalism or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in a communications role, in-office, remote, or hybrid.
- Proficiency in French and English, with strong writing, editing, and proofreading abilities in both languages.
- Demonstrated experience with print and digital media preparing informal and formal communications.
- Ability to produce and edit diverse forms of for traditional and digital/social media.
- Experience with both print and digital media, including diverse content creation.
- Skills in using communication-enhancing programs and tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and MS Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
- Expertise in social media strategy and execution across platforms like Facebook/Instagram, X, YouTube, and LinkedIn; familiarity with other channels is a plus.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
Working conditions:
- Average of 37.5 hours per week; typically 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with 1 hour off (unpaid) for lunch.
- Primarily a desk job with extended periods of sitting, reading, virtual/telephone meetings and working at the computer.
- Work with a small, dedicated staff group with strong environmental and social culture
- Cleanfarms provides equipment and IT support to enable employee performance in remote settings.
- Some travel required in Canada to attend trade shows, collection sites and events or meetings with possible need for overnight stay.
- Valid driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation is required.
Compensation:
- This is a salaried position; salary is based on experience and qualifications.

This position
We’re seeking a junior communications generalist with a formal communications education and at least two years of structured work experience in a communications-specific job environment.
The ideal candidate will have had exposure to many aspects of communications planning and execution with strong communications credentials (excellent writing, editing, uncompromising attention to detail, creative flair) and an excellent work ethic. Our preferred candidate will provide support for communications in English and French. You will bring skills from your education and experience to date and be excited to learn new skills in communications and environment. This position reports to the Director of Communications and supports other members of a small communications team.
Communications Assistant role & responsibilities
While no two days will be the same, here are some of the typical responsibilities for this position:
- Draft and edit content for print/digital materials for internal and external audiences including articles, presentations, brochures, advertisements, videos and items for digital displays and other communication materials as required.
- Assist in planning purchases in support of our advertising campaigns.
- Work with Media and designers to traffic ad copy to media outlets for advertising campaigns
- Assist in tracking ad spend on advertising campaigns as well as campaign performance metrics.
- Write and edit – blogs, web copy, social media copy, etc.
- Assist in developing assets that support programs e.g., collection site kits with posters, postcards, web copy, web banners, social posts for Cleanfarms and partners in English and in French. Review publications to make sure they are letter perfect for publication.
- Optimize photos for social media and other digital programs.
- Establish and manage systems for cataloguing and data management for communications assets to provide for easy retrieval and usage across the organization.
- Work with Cleanfarms’ Communications & Media Advisor and Web Developer to ensure English and French websites are up-to-date, and that new content is uploaded in a timely fashion.
- Assist with planning and preparation for special events.
- Provide support for special projects e.g., developing new signs, banners, stickers in English and French to support program operations.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- An undergraduate degree or college diploma in communications, marketing or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of progressive employment experience in a communications role, working in an office, remote or hybrid environment.
- Excellent editing and proof-reading skills and strong attention to details.
- Excellence in professional communications in English; excellence in spoken and written French.
- Ability to produce and edit diverse forms of traditional and social media.
- Fluency in working with programs that enhance communications/posting/assessment in these media (Canva, Microsoft suite, etc.).
- Ability to create/complete engaging posts and photos that drive traffic to Cleanfarms/AgriRÉCUP Facebook, TikTok, X & LinkedIn accounts.
- Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple tasks with direction.
- Demonstrated experience with print and digital media preparing informal and formal communications.
- Excellent MS Office skills including PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
Preference will be given to applicants who have:
- Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team, remotely and in office settings.
- A respect for the environment and an appreciation and understanding of the agricultural sector.
- Interest to learn about agricultural waste management programs.
- Experience with online mail, survey programs and facility to learn new ones as needed.
- Video editing, photoshop, online analytics, Adobe Creative Suite.
- Insights into sound file management and web structure organization.
