Transitioning Small Container Collection from Municipal to Retail Sites

Alberta & Manitoba – 2022 to 2024

The transition from collection sites for <23L containers at municipal depots to ag retail outlets completed in 2024.

Thank you to farmers for working with us throughout this gradual transition, to the municipal site that have provided their services to the program over many years, and to all the new retail collection sites that are now accepting <23L container drop offs. Please note: there are still a small number of municipal depots accepting drop offs. Please use the collection site map to find your nearest collection site. Additional questions?

Email Cori Crawford, Manager of Sustainability and Performance.

Follow these steps to ensure the containers you drop off can be recycled:

  1. Rinse & remove
    • Use chemical handler/ triple rinse/ pressure rinse
    • Remove paper booklets, and discard
  2. Fill bag & close
    • Place rinsed containers in bag and securely close
    • Don’t mix empty containers with other ag plastics
  3. Seed treatment containers
    • Caps are to remain securely ON
    • Place in a separate collection bag (note – this is preferred for collection at municipal sites and required at retail sites and for storage and transportation)
  1. Return for recycling. Visit the collection site map to find your nearest drop off point.
