Small Feed Bag
Empty, fold and place in a Cleanfarms bag
Follow these steps to ensure that your bags are accepted and can be recycled or managed properly.
These instructions are for the proper preparation of agricultural bulk bags and totes and small bags used for feed, peat moss and wood shavings.
1. Shake to remove as much debris as possible (rocks, hay, straw, mud)
2. Prepare the bags
3. Return the bags or bundles to a collection site (details coming soon)
Please help ensure efficient collection programs. Sorting and cleaning is a critical first step. Only clean, dry and sorted bags will be accepted. Each bag (e.g., a small, multi material bag vs. a polypropylene bulk bag) is sent to a different recycler or processor.
Cleanfarms collection bags are available free of charge at collection sites. Contact your collection site prior to dropping off materials or picking up bags.
*Animal (livestock) feed, peat moss and wood shavings (chip)
**Animal (livestock) feed and peat moss
NOTE: Seed, pesticide and inoculant bags (Canada-wide) and fertilizer bags (Quebec and PEI only) are also accepted
Where should I return my bags?
This program is under development. Collection sites will soon be added to our online map
What really happens to the items I bring to a Cleanfarms collection site? Are they recycled?
In partnership with its members and farmers, Cleanfarms is working towards “zero agricultural plastic waste to landfill”. The vast majority of items that Cleanfarms collects are sent to pre-approved recyclers across North America and many within Canada. Most of the plastics are pelletized and then manufactured into new products and packaging. For items that cannot be recycled, Cleanfarms works with licensed waste-to-energy facilities. How clean do these materials need to be?
They don’t have to be perfectly clean. However, we ask that you remove as much debris as possible. Rocks, mud, organic matter and other objects can damage recycling equipment, contaminate an entire load of materials (which causes the entire load to be landfilled), or produce lower quality plastic pellets that cannot be used for manufacturing. With your help at the very beginning of the process, we can ensure all items are recycled.
Do I have to pay when I drop off materials at a Cleanfarms collection site?
No, farmers do not pay when dropping off materials at collection sites. The companies that supply these products and/or packaging finance all operations.
