Farmers in Quebec readying for collection of pesticides and livestock/equine medications this Fall

Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, QC – September 14, 2026 – Farmers across Quebec are getting ready to participate this Fall in Cleanfarms’ longest running, well-loved environmental stewardship initiative: the Unwanted Pesticides and Old Livestock/Equine Medications (UPLM) program.

Operating on a rotating three-year schedule, this Cleanfarms program helps farmers protect their land and communities by accepting unwanted commercial-class pesticides and expired livestock/equine medications for safe disposal, free of charge. New in 2026 and only in Quebec farmers can also turn into expired treated seeds as well.

This year, there are twenty-two single-day collection events across Quebec from September 21 to October 8, operating from 9AM to 4PM. For added convenience in more remote regions, there are also three-week collection events in nine locations, including Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean and Gaspésie–Les Îles, and others (dates and hours vary. See below for complete details, also available at Cleanfarms.ca).

See full list of collection event locations below.

“Farmers appreciate this program,” says UPLM Program Coordinator Heather Bradley. “During the last UPLM collection held in Quebec, Cleanfarms saw record participation, with a significant increase in the number of unwanted pesticides and old livestock and equine medications collected. This success reflects farmers’ growing commitment to the safe and responsible management of these products. We are therefore very optimistic about participation in this year’s collection.”

“The program is funded by crop protection industry members and the Canadian Animal Health Institute (CAHI) and provides a much needed solution for members of the agricultural industry looking to safely dispose of unwanted and outdated pesticides and animal medications taking up space on their farms,” says Dr. Catherine Filejski, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Animal Health Institute (CAHI).
