May 8, 2014, Etobicoke, ON – For Cleanfarms Inc., 2013 was a year of milestones and the celebration of a record year. In his 2013 Annual Report released yesterday, Cleanfarms’ general manager, Barry Friesen, emphasized the significant progress made throughout the year.

“The empty container program collected the 100th million empty container since the program’s inauguration in 1989,” said Friesen. “Meanwhile, our other core programs; the obsolete pesticide collection program and the empty pesticide bag collection program, also saw increased collection totals.”

Other noteworthy accomplishments in 2013 included Cleanfarms’ continued partnership with the Canadian Animal Health Institute on the joint obsolete and livestock medication collections, successful pilot projects for the safe disposal of empty seed and pesticide bags in select regions of Ontario and Quebec, and Cleanfarms receiving the 2012 Ontario Minister’s Award for Environmental Excellence.

“Cleanfarms’ record setting achievements are just one example of the ongoing dedication that both Canadian farmers and the plant science industry have to full lifecycle stewardship,” added Jay Bradshaw, president of Syngenta Canada Inc. and chair of the Cleanfarms board of directors. “We look forward to reaching many more milestones in 2014 and beyond.”
