Across Canada, provincial governments regulate packaging as a way to support and finance waste diversion efforts. Cleanfarms helps industry meet these regulations.
The Cleanfarms suite of programs, for the most part, operate on a voluntary basis because Canadian farmers, and the industries that support them, have a long-standing commitment to good stewardship practices.
Recently, Cleanfarms has had to adapt its programs to meet provincial regulations. This ensures that its programs operate efficiently and sustainably and it allows members to meet their regulatory requirements.
Cleanfarms now operates regulated programs in the following provinces:
- Saskatchewan – grain bag recycling
- Manitoba – empty container recycling
- Quebec – empty container recycling
The information in this section is geared towards stewards, those who supply or sell products to farmers. We’ve summarized some of the questions we get from stakeholders about relevant regulations, where our programs fit in and in some cases, what other regulations may impact the broad range of packaging used on farms.
